Let's analyze your Total T4 levels

A few questions help us personalize your report.

About Total T4

Total T4 measures both protein-bound and free thyroxine, the main hormone produced by your thyroid gland. Free T4 is generally preferred for clinical decisions since it is unaffected by binding protein fluctuations from pregnancy, estrogen, or liver disease. Total T4 remains useful in specific contexts such as neonatal screening and monitoring thyroid binding globulin disorders.

Also known as: T4 (Total), T4 Total, Thyroxine, Thyroxine Total, Thyroxine totale, Tiroksin, Tiroxina, Total T4

What does your Total T4 result mean?

High total T4 indicates hyperthyroidism or elevated thyroid-binding globulin from pregnancy or estrogen. Low total T4 occurs with hypothyroidism or reduced binding proteins.

Optimal vs. normal range

Standard range is 4.5-12.0 ug/dL. Free T4 is preferred over total T4 for clinical decisions because it's unaffected by binding protein fluctuations.
