Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC) measures the reserve capacity of transferrin not currently bound to iron. Combined with serum iron, it equals your Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC). UIBC rises when iron stores are depleted and falls when iron is abundant.
